Easy Eats: My First Public Cooking Class!
Julia Child once said, “No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing“. In order to become comfortable in the kitchen, you must practice. And what better way to practice and learn by doing than to attend my first public cooking class!
I am SUPER excited to announce that I have found a location to host my first cooking class and I’m inviting you all to attend! The class will be held Saturday, October 11 from 3-6 pm in Center City Philadelphia.
My class is a comprehensive cooking lesson geared towards beginner to intermediate aspiring home cooks. Within a small group, you will receive hands on experience and acquire knowledge and skills to make restaurant quality meals at home. This class will focus on the preparation of seasonal and nutrient dense foods and will teach you how to turn them into meal that are both healthy and delicious.
What is the class format?
During the course of 3 hours, you’ll be walked through the prep and creation of breakfast, lunch, and dinner for about 5 days’ worth of gourmet nutritional food for two people. This class will get you started by learning in the most effective way: learning by doing. I’ll talk you through the preparation, assist with the cooking, and we’ll take mini breaks to taste what we’re cooking.
You’ll receive complete instructions on how to use simple and seasonal ingredients and learn basic methods you’ll use week after week. I’ll be teaching only the most time-efficient methods for making delicious and healthy food. This is not a class where you’ll learn how to make a very complex dish that will take you hours to make! I’m also a big advocate for using a recipe as a guide and inspiration, not an absolute.
You will also receive a packet of information with everything we learned that day and some bonus recipes for you to try at home!
What is on the menu?
Some of it is a surprise, as I cook primarily with seasonal ingredients that I find at the market the day of the class. However, here are some dishes you can expect:
- Seasonal cocktail
- Breakfast hash
- Seared steak with homemade herb butter
- Seasonal salad with homemade vinaigrette
- Shrimp coconut curry
- Coconut cauliflower rice
- Seasonal fruit dessert
What techniques will you cover?
I will teach you basic knife skills, like how to become a pro at peeling and slicing vegetables and what knives to use for different types of cutting. You won’t leave without learning how to dice an onion properly or how to cut a bell pepper with one single cut! We’ll also go over basic essential kitchen knowledge, like how to properly defrost meat, the best way to sear a steak, and make healthy staples taste gourmet by making a few slight tweaks, along with much, much more!
How much does the class cost?
The class is priced at $110/person, but for this week only it will be $99/person! The cost includes all food, instruction, and a packet you will take home with you with everything we learned that day. You must pay in advance of the class and I do not issue refunds if your plans change at the last minute.

What should I bring?
Bring yourself and wear comfortable shoes as we’ll be standing for a portion of the class!
