Chocolate covered bacon
In light of tomorrow’s holiday, I have created the most delectable treats for my valentine: chocolate covered bacon. I mean, come on, who doesn’t like bacon? Especially if it’s covered in chocolate! I added a variety of different toppings including pistachios, cashews, almonds, walnuts, sea salt, bourbon sugar, and white chocolate. Get creative and add whatever toppings you prefer.
For bacon covered chocolate, you will need:
– 1 12 oz pack of bacon (the thinner bacon is crispier, but thick is good too)
– 10 oz semi sweet chocolate (I prefer the “Enjoy Life” brand, which is dairy, nut, and soy free)
– toppings of choice
To make chocolate covered bacon:
Preheat your oven to 425°F and add the bacon strips on a baking tray. Let the bacon bake for 20-25 minutes, depending on how crispy you want it. Pat the oil off with a paper towel. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate fully. Dip the bacon fully into the melted chocolate and plate on a baking sheet. At this time, add your toppings of choice (if any). Once you have covered all of your bacon in chocolate, place in the freezer for 15 minutes to harden before consuming.
Tip: Do NOT microwave your chocolate; melt it over a double boiler. To create your own double boiler, boil water in a pot and place a slightly larger bowl over the boiling water to heat the chocolate. Microwaving the chocolate isn’t as efficient because the microwave heats the chocolate over it’s optimum melting temperature and in turn, burns the chocolate and creates lumps.
